Students will receive a refund of double their tuition cost if they attend at least one class per week and fail to pass the 2009 Sergeant or Lieutenant Civil Service exams

* Both tardies and early departures count as an absence

* All decisions concerning the refund policy will be made by the course instructor

Instructor Bio

Instructor Shane McCoy began his career with the HCSO in 1987 and was promoted to the rank of Detective/Sergeant in 1990. He has served on two local/federal task forces, written two state funded personnel grants, was honored in 1993 as the 100 Club’s Officer of the Year, worked the Robbery Division from 1994 to 2008, and is now assigned to the Sexual Assault Unit.

McCoy, who graduated Magna Cum Laude from TCU in 1985 and completed 30 semester hours in the Criminal Justice graduate program at Sam Houston State University, holds the TCLEOSE certifications of Master Peace Officer and Instructor, and also served as a part-time CJ instructor at San Jacinto Junior College – North Campus.

McCoy recently served two terms as President of the Texas Gulf Coast Crime Prevention Association and has been deemed a Certified Crime Prevention Specialist by the Texas Crime Prevention Institute. In addition, McCoy performs public speaking engagements concerning personal safety, and is an active law enforcement instructor for the HCSO, Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, and the Rice University PD training academies.
